KPN uses SpeechFrame® for 'SMS to Fixed'
Soesterberg, 2nd January 2006 - KPN will be using SpeechFrame®, the telephony platform of Comsys, for their 'SMS to Fixed' service. SpeechFrame® will replace a legacy platform and offers KPN reliability and extended functionality, especially in the area of management and configuration. Comsys will be taking care of the complete implementation and will deliver, in cooperation with KPN project management, as turn-key solution.
A SMS text-message sent to a fixed telephone can be delivered in two ways: as text or as a spoken message via an IVR. A text message is only possible when the receiving telephone is fit for receiving text messages and the receiver has already sent a message. When this is not the case the message will be converted to spoken language. Obviously, also specific SMS-language, like abbreviations and emoticons, like 'cu' ;-) have to be translated. The Text to Speech function within SpeechFrame® converts the contents of SMS text-messages to fluent, naturally sounding spoken text.
An important reason for KPN to choose SpeechFrame® was that this system is based on VoiceXML. This flexible web programming language is used as a standard application language by KPN. Ron van Eyck, senior technical product manager at KPN: "The problems we have with our current system will be solved by using SpeechFrame®. We expect that less support activities will be necessary and that we will be getting better results."
Diederik Husslage, senior account manager at Comsys: "For years there has been a good relation between Comsys and KPN. We are very pleased with KPN choosing SpeechFrame®. We started developing mid October and at the beginning of December the system was implemented. For KPN this fast implementation was of great importance because of the huge number of messages during new years night, which were all properly processed."
